The EMS Division of the Shelbyville Fire Department came into being on January 1, 1991. Prior to that the Ambulance Department had been it’s own county entity. With the merger came many exciting new challenges for our department.

EMS Chief Tom Laughlin heads the EMS Division. In his role, he works with the Battalion Chiefs to ensure proper staffing and equipping of our ambulances. He works with the training division to ensure our members get the proper training on a yearly basis.

The Shelbyville Fire Department operates 2 Advanced Life Support ambulances on a daily basis. We provide the only Advanced Life Support ambulances in Shelby County. We provide ambulance service to not only the City of Shelbyville, but also ALL of Shelby County.

Our county – wide district is an astounding 411 square miles. In 2006, we responded to 3,523 requests for aid.

We recently began Advanced Life Support on our Engines, as well. Our Engines will have all of the same equipment for providing Advanced Life Support services as our ambulances. We feel by providing our Firefighters with more tools to save lives, the Shelbyville Fire Department can be more efficient and effective in our service delivery.
